Education is one domain that has accompanied civilization through the centuries, adapting its tools to fulfill the expectations of the students and the needs of the teachers. Such tools can be as obvious and traditional as pencils and a notebook, or as complex and innovative as online courses, virtual, augmented, and mixed reality environments. This week we present you a digest of TOP 5 articles from EAI Endorsed Transactions on e-Learning journal.
- Accessibility Assessment for Online Education Tools: Towards Accessible Principles for a Mexican University
The authors of this paper, S. B. Fajardo-Flores, L. S. Gaytan-Lugo, P. C. Santana-Mancilla, and M. A. Rodriguez-Ortiz, present characteristics of different disabilities using digital technologies. Web content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are explained according to their principles and how each offers alternatives for the limitations of people with disabilities and the conformance levels A, AA, AAA. This paper appeared in issue 21 of EAI Endorsed Transactions on e-Learning journal.
2. Application of ARCS Model for a Blended Teaching Methodologies: A Study of Students’ Motivation amid the COVID-19
A well-developed course in accordance with sound instructional design principles and successfully delivered multiple times in a traditional face-to-face classroom mode failed to stimulate students’ motivation to learn in an online delivery mode amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. The authors of this paper, U.K. Durrani and M.M. Kamal contribute by presenting a case study on the application of ARCS models to enhance efficacy of an online course and students engagement. This article was published in issue 21 of EAI Endorsed Transactions on e-Learning journal.
3. Facial expression recognition via transfer learning
The author of this paper, Bin Li, focuses on the deep learning-based static face image expression recognition method, and combines transfer learning and deep residual network ResNet-101 to realize facial expression recognition. Facial expression recognition has been widely applied to every field of our life. How to improve the accuracy of facial emotion recognition is an important research content. This paper appeared in issue 21 of EAI Endorsed Transactions on e-Learning journal.
4. Tea category classification via 5-layer customized convolutional neural network
The authors of this paper, Xiang Li, Mengyao Zhai, and Junding Sun, proposed a 5-layer customized convolutional neural network for 3 tea categories classification. Green tea, oolong, and black tea are the three most popular teas in the world. If classified tea by manual, it will not only take a lot of time but also be affected by other factors, such as smell, vision, emotion, etc. This paper appeared in issue 22 of EAI Endorsed Transactions on e-Learning journal.
5. An immersive game of simulated visually impaired
Th authors of this paper, Juan Lei, Xi Huang, Tao Chang, Qijun Wu, Yingying Long, and Xianwei Jiang, elaborate the connotation of educational games and gamified learning, the source of creativity, and the design and implementation of games. In order to raise the public’s attention to the visually impaired people and strengthen quality education, mobile games are combined with the inconveniences that the visually impaired people encounter in life to arouse the players’ thinking and call on people to be more patient and helpful to the visually impaired. This paper appeared issue 22 of EAI Endorsed Transactions on e-Learning journal.
