The 9th International Conference on Pervasive Computing Technologies for Healthcare, PervasiveHealth 2015 which took place on May 20-23, 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey has successfully come to the end!
The Conference has been hosted by the University of Boğaziçi, which kindly offered the venue. Sponsored by EAI, CREATE-NET, IEEE, EMB, SIGCHI and ACM, PervasiveHealth 2015 featured three keynote speeches, numerous technical sessions and doctoral colloquia and four workshops: the Workshop on Adaptive Treatments and Therapies (WATTs 2015), Issues of Geographically Distributed, Home-Based Testbeds for Pervasive Health Research (HomeSHARE 2015), the workshop on Personal Health Systems for Chronic Diseases (PHSCD 2015) and ProCare 2015: the Process-oriented approach for patient-centered care delivery workshop.
The Conference mainly focused on identifying and understanding problems from a technological, social, medical, and legal as well as financial perspective; but also on the design and evaluation of supporting hardware and software infrastructures, algorithms, services and applications and organizational strategies that facilitate integration of Pervasive Healthcare Technology into the healthcare enterprise.
Keynote speakers focused on examples of context-aware wearables used in circadian phase modelling, stroke patient recovery tracking; the potential clinical application of the tools already existent in order to drive attention to what is needed in the near future to work with elderly patients with Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease and sensing trends and their relevance for Pervasive Health.
The Best Paper was awarded to David C. Mohr, Colleen Stiles-Shields, Christopher Brenner, Hannah Palac, Enid Montague, Eric Carty-Fickes, Jenna Duffecy and Susan M. Kaiser for the research entitled “MedLink: A Mobile Intervention to Address Failure Points in the Treatment of Depression in General Medicine”. The paper focused on the use of a comprehensive, systemic approach to mHealth solutions to enhance processes of care for depression by general medicine physicians.
To sum up, PervasiveHealth 2015 got together researchers and clinical collaborators in the field of healthcare and new technologies for the healthcare enterprises to discuss and share knowledge on technologies and human factors related to the use of ubiquitous computing in healthcare and for wellbeing. Many expert and relevant academicians will join the conference to share their high-level knowledge on the field. It also reached its goal: to take a multidisciplinary approach to Pervasive Healthcare Technology research and development.
